Hello 😀! My name is Maria Fernanda. You can call me Mafe 💃🏻. I’m a graphic designer, I’m my own boss and that’s a great challenge. If you want to see my work, you can follow me on Instagram at @convchiquita 🧚🏻‍♀️.

My learning style

To be honest, I had a headache every time I thought about having to start learning German. I didn’t see it as an advantage, but as a nightmare haha 😊 (I’m very honest) and the truth is that I’m not one of those people who likes to learn and enrol in thousands of courses.

I’m more the type to watch tutorials on YouTube and Pinterest and then go straight into practice. I’m more interested in doing something hands-on than watching or listening to it being done 😉!

My experience at DIALOG

But let’s get to the positives and what we came here for: Finding DIALOG was one of the best things that has happened to me in terms of German courses. After you’ve taken the first step and said to yourself “Let’s get started!”, the next step is to find a language school that you can identify with! I’ve already been to 3 others – believe me: I know what I’m talking about 😉!

At DIALOG I feel at home, I feel comfortable, I feel safe, and I don’t find it difficult to get up every morning and go to class. And the worst thing that can happen when you’re learning something is that everything becomes a burden. German is a very complicated language: imagine if the place where you learn it is also complicated… Whew, a total disaster!

I have the feeling that DIALOG is more like a family where you feel safe and comfortable! That’s how I feel 😊!

My favourites & tips

My favourite German words are…

  • kaputt (nice as it sounds)
  • mutig
  • lecker (but use carefully in Austria 😉)

My favourite German phrases are…

  • nur Bahnhof verstehen
  • Das ist mir Wurst!

I also really like a cuss word (because as a good learner of a new language, bad words are the first thing you learn, and for some reason they’re words that get stuck in your head), but I’m not going to write that down because this is a lovely text.

„Ach so!“ is the perfect phrase for newcomers when you don’t understand something but want to give the impression that you do!  And „Ich weiß es nicht.“ is also a good sentence to learn.

The best thing to do in Vienna when you need a break from the German is… drive to the airport and catch a plane to somewhere far, far away…😊 Just kidding! I would recommend losing yourself in the streets of Vienna and letting the city capture you. If it’s summer, you can buy a beer and do the same, but with a beer in your hand.

My advice to all

My advice to everyone (and the one I give myself every day) is: You will become fluent speaker! You will see: It won’t be in a month, two months or three, but the more you listen, the more you read, the more you try to speak, everything you learned in the courses will make more sense and everything will seem more natural.

Perfection is not the goal. The goal is that you feel comfortable, that you are not ashamed of making mistakes, that you try as often as necessary. In this way, the language will gradually become a part of you and life will be filled with beautiful colours.

In conclusion: Yes, of course I would recommend DIALOG. It is a place where you are motivated to learn, where you are taught very well, where you are given the tools to learn this language, where everything is declined and conjugated, in a more friendly way…
